Earth-friendly family events April 14: Volunteer Spruce-Up Day at Lake Springfield Park, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Lake Springfield Park, 2312 E. Lake Springfield Park Road. Volunteers will help widen and mulch trails, clear and plant flower beds, seed native wildflowers and bring limbs to a wood chipper operated by Parks. Due to the nature of the work, only children 12 and older may volunteer. Volunteers should check in at the Lake Springfield Boathouse and Marina at 9 a.m. Preregistration is requested by Wednesday, or the morning of the event, if necessary. 864-1051
