NICOLE McMillan once had to operate on a pit bull terrier that was walking like a turtle as it had eaten two buckets worth of nylon outdoor furniture cushions.
She has also operated on a watering can as a puppy had gotten its head stuck inside it.
“We had to actually sedate him and cut the watering can off. I don’t know how he got his head in there but it certainly wasn’t coming off,” she said.
“I still see him 12 to 13 years later and he has learnt his lesson and steers clear of watering cans.”
Dr McMillan, 42, who lives in Cranebrook, is a vet at Coreen Avenue Veterinary Clinic and the Western Sydney Cat Hospital in Penrith.
Her love of animals developed as she grew up on a small hobby farm with any animals she could convince her parents to acquire, which included dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, guinea pigs, a goat and a hermit crab.
Dr McMillan said that she likes that her job is different every day.
