Vase Fillers Water

A vase with water is the least costly alternative. Everyone has some type of suitable container to fill with water and arrange flowers in. It doesn’t have to be a vase, per se. It can be an old galvanized watering can, a colorful ceramic bowl, a juice can with the top removed that you cover with contact paper. The choices are endless. You can be playful and have fun being creative. In a clear glass container you can use marbles, stones, or gravel to add interest and/or color as well as give some support to the stems. You can use small vases or even wine glasses in a grouping. The only rule of thumb to remember is they should all relate to the other in some way. i.e. clear cut glass, various shades of the same color glass, all stoneware, pottery, or terra cotta. Varying the heights and shapes adds visual interest. You want to make sure the container is clean and then add fresh room temperature water. If you have a commercial flower food available add the correct amount to the water in the vase, if not, you can use a teaspoon of water and 3-5 drops of chlorine bleach to a quart of water and it will serve the same purpose, which is to inhibit bacteria from growing in the water and to provide food for the flowers. Both will extend the life of your cut flowers.
