Adam Obrecht believes in the environment and inspiring children. With the Trees for Kids and Trees for Teens grant, he will put those beliefs into action.
On May 2, he will lead an effort to plant 113 trees at four Urbandale school district buildings: Webster, Karen Acres and Olmsted elementary schools and Urbandale High School.
Last fall, he helped Webster Elementary School students and parents plant 40 trees at that school.
Obrecht, a member of the districts school board and the Urbandale Education Foundation, applied for and received a grant from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to pay for the trees.
The Trees for Kids and Trees for Teens grant is intended to educate students about the value of trees and to encourage tree planting projects at schools and other public areas. The grant promotes energy efficiency and diversifying the urban landscape.
