Trustees approve buying lawn-mowing equipment

The Norwich Township trustees approved the purchase of three lawnmowers and two utility vehicles April 3.

The vote was 2-1, with Chuck Buck and Tim Roberts in favor and Larry Earman dissenting.

According to fiscal officer Jamie Miles, the township approved the purchase of three Exmark lawnmowers at a cost of $8,479 each, for a total of $25,437, from Hilliard Lawn & Garden. After a trade-in of $12,500, the mowers would cost $12,937. The two Gator utility vehicles cost $8,388.65 each from JD Equipment Inc., for a total of $16,777.30. After a trade-in of $8,000, the Gators would cost $8,777.30.

Miles said the amounts initially were appropriated with the township’s cemetery budget for 2012.

Buck, who owns Buck & Sons Landscape Service, told the trustees he recommended the Exmark lawnmowers over John Deere mowers, even though they cost $1,200 more each. Earman asked Buck if the Exmarks were worth the extra cost, and Buck said that in his opinion, they were.
