Tractor, mower parts business gets a face

FRANKLIN—The owners of an online, home-based tractor and mower parts business has expanded to a storefront in Hunterdale.

Ed Griggs, 35, and his wife, Christina, 33, of Franklin recently opened Griggs Lawn & Tractor at 111 Delaware Road, next to the former Hunterdale Service Station.

“We wanted to be able to have a storefront for the local community,” Ed Griggs said.

The couple rents the building from Freeman Harrell of Franklin. Hunterdale Hardware Supply, a thrift store, and, most recently, a beauty salon occupied the building.

The only thing the Griggses did to prepare for the opening was to paint gray over the pink from the salon and stock the shelves.

Ed Griggs at age 16 got a part-time job as a stock boy with a tractor and lawnmower parts business, never thinking it would turn into a career. He moved up and was eventually named manager of the store.

In 2006, a vendor told Griggs he needed someone to sell parts online. They set up a website and business went well. The couple continues to sell parts online.
