MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- According to the EPA, switching to an electric mower can help you remove almost the same amount of air pollution produced by 11 cars in one hour. But, making that switch to electric isn't easy for everyone.

Enter the 4th Annual Tri-county Lawnmower Exchange. The exchange was held Friday, offering cash vouchers for old gas mowers and lawn equipment. It also offered electric mowers and yard tools at prices organizers said couldn't be found in stores or online.

"It's a local opportunity for people to trade in their gas powered lawnmowers and then purchase a new electric lawn mower," said Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) liaison Richelle Tolton.

Tolton said it's a winning situation for all involved -- DHEC, consumers and sponsors.

Participants in the exchange got to try out the mowers and yard tools. DHEC got them to complete a survey that is used to report emissions reduction. Old mowers were collected for recycling.
