Neighborhood tour showcases 'old and improved'

Elmwood Park residents were more than willing to provide suggestions Sunday as the community opened its doors for the 29th annual Elmwood Park Home and Garden Tour. After a one-year absence, the popular tour returned this year with an array of historic homes and gardens while offering more artists, classic cars and area chefs this year.

“It’s a way that we open up and let Columbia know about the beauty of Elmwood Park,” community resident Betty Hopkins said.

Sunday’s tour showcased nine homes, some featuring early 20th century designs, others reflecting recent renovations and one originally constructed as a grocery store.

Other landmark stops included Elmwood Cemetery, the Blue Star Memorial Garden, historic Logan Elementary School, Beckham Garden and the grounds of the Governor’s Mansion.

Like the Morrisons, many other visitors were seeking ideas for their own homes Sunday.
