Author's new book is colourful and easy to read

I offered to do a book review on a new gardening release from Lone Pine Publishing, which was written by a Canadian author.

First of all, I really like the size of their books, and quality coloured pictures can always be expected. You can find their books in most places, with garden guides on many topics; I have several and use them often.

‘Gardening with Colour’ is written by Rob Sproule, who has a greenhouse business in Sherwood Park, Alberta. He recommends gardening as an elegant, creative outlet. By reading his book, Sproule promises confidence in learning how easy it is to use plants to make living art.

There are references to general gardening, but the book focuses mainly on containers with 60 recipes, including photos on how to create and maintain spectacular pots. The common theory of using a thriller for the centre piece, fillers for the central part of the container and spillers for trailing plants over the edge is explained.

When describing plant choices, Sproule has his own system based on fish. Goldfish are passive, slow growing plants like succulents, trout are mildly aggressive, and sharks are fast growing and want to control space.
