Together Yes: A garden will grow

My neighbor has a lawn service that applies pesticide/herbicide chemicals to the yard a couple of times every summer, planting those little yellow warning flags about the property.

Because of the slope of the land, the runoff is right into the only patch of land on which I could grow vegetables. Will I plant there anyway? No, I am not eating produce grown in such poisons. As I rent, I can hardly alter the entire landscaping of this property, and so I will grow what I can in containers this next summer. Acceptable, but not quite good enough.

What if I were a participant in a community garden where I could help grow healthy produce, and then take it home to eat? I can imagine the benefits:

1: I would not have to work as hard at growing the produce, as there would be others responsible for it too. We would share the work, and it could fit into everyone’s schedule.

2: The produce would be organically grown and therefore contain no toxins. Enough said on that.
