Spring may have arrived

I was aghast at the marsh marigold – a ground cover growing flat on the ground and the yellow blooms cover the whole area. It’s breathtaking to say the least. Then I saw the yellow-blooming primroses that the late Ann Wright gave me – pass along plants.

So many times as we toured along I would say, “oh, I remember when So and So gave me this.”

In another area the ground is literally covered with tiny blooms of spring beauty and toothwort with a little epimedium. This is to say nothing of my favorite wild flower, and that’s trillium. At one time I had more than 20 varieties, and they still may be here, but I can no longer identify them and call them by name. I look at a plant and recognize it, but can’t call the name.

I just had to get to the phone and tell anyone who would listen about our “Garden of Eden.” I even invited one friend, who has moved and is trying to establish her own shade garden, to come see and bring shovel, bags and buckets. I wanted to share with her because I knew she would take care of these lovelies.
