When the “pitiful, pitiful” kitchen became unbearable, a couple considered selling the house where they had raised their three children. In the end, they opted to knock down walls rather than move and forfeit the memories held so dear.

 

 

Who's cooking: Denise Reynolds , a part-time comptroller at an H-E-B store, and her husband, Calvin, a chaplain in the Navy Reserves and senior pastor at San Pedro Presbyterian Church .

 

What's cooking: Denise makes casseroles and crockpot meals to share with others, and she bakes Irish Brown Bread for each family that joins the church, some 25 to 50 loaves a year. Calvin is the grill master.

 

In this kitchen: A renovation on the kitchen Denise has cooked in since 1988 wrapped up just in time for Christmas cookie baking in 2009.

 

The space: The original tiny galley blossomed to a space of about 14 by 20 feet when the Reynoldses removed a wall between it and a space they used as a study.
