Man arrested after leading police chase

An Orangeburg man went to jail early Friday after police say he led officers on a chase through the Garden City in a car that wasn’t his.
A Bowman woman called deputies around 5:30 a.m. Friday saying her car had been taken by an acquaintance without her permission. She said she had gone to bed around 11 p.m. the night before, leaving the acquaintance watching TV.
In the middle of the night, several people called her to say her car had been involved in a chase in Orangeburg with city police, the report said.
Deputies contacted the S.C. Highway Patrol and learned the car had been involved in a collision with an Orangeburg Department of Public Safety patrol car.
According to an ODPS report, officers were patrolling Chestnut Street around 3 a.m. when they saw a vehicle weaving severely in the road.
When they turned on their blue lights, the driver led police on a chase that traveled Boulevard, Carolina and onto Green Street at speeds up to 70 mph.
