Terrain Set To Open Second Location

Terrain, the home and gardening retail component of Urban Outfitters, Inc., will be opening a second location in Westport, Conn., at the end of April or first week of May in 2012. The original location is near Philadelphia in Glenn Mills, Pa. and has been in operation since 2008.

“We knew we wanted to grow Terrain, no pun intended,” says Terrain president Wendy McDevitt. “We like to put our locations where our customers are, and Westport has a high density of our customers [of the Urban Outfitters brands].”

The company’s first foray into garden retail – Terrain by Styers in 2008 – involved buying a successful existing garden center and transforming it to fit the Terrain vision. That tactic has changed a bit with the second store, which will be located in a former Cadillac deadlership. McDevitt says the old building provides the perfect architecture for a Terrain store.

Terrain at Westport is contained in a single building and boasts a smaller space overall than the first location, it will house the flagship store’s traditional garden and nursery departments, as well as a café.
