Vandals target 2 local churches on Easter weekend

Vandals targeted two local churches over the busy Easter weekend. Worshippers arrived for services, only to be greeted with shocking messages.

In Seattle's First Hill neighborhood, St. James Cathedral was defaced with red spray paint. Church members said the graffiti wasn't there last night.

The spray paint covered parts of exterior walls and a statue of Mary and the Christ child.

But many worshippers said they weren't letting it distract them from celebrating Easter Sunday.

"The cathedral is just beautiful. It's absolutely fabulous -- just beautiful," said Cindy Rochelle, who attends St. James Cathedral. "Just puts you in the Easter spirit."

As on many Easter Sundays before, the bells beckoned the start of Easter mass at St. James Cathedral. But what seemed even louder were the red graffiti messages someone sprayed onto the landmark that's more than 100 years old.

The words and symbols could easily be seen as church-goers arrived.
