Floral scents drifted through the air at Andy and Linda Macias residence during the 15th annual Porterville Garden Tour.

Walking past several rose trees, and under a rose-covered arch, Olga Samarin stopped to enjoy the panoramic view.

Behind the home was a garage area, with bougainvilleas growing up one side and across the top, and a couple of patio areas. A couple of doves coo’ed by the back door which offered a scenic view of the foothills.

The property, once filled with dried up orange trees and five-feet tall weeds, was cleared to build the beautiful home and garden it is today, said homeowner Linda Macias. Her home was one of several on the tour.

“We knew we wanted a variety of colors and a lot of greenery in our front and back garden,” Macias said. “What inspired us was a trip to Mexico. They had beautiful bougainvilleas, roses, palm trees and lots of greenery.”

The home appeared to inspire the people touring it.
