Pioneer Village craft fair a trip in time
Steven C. Nelson is the designated mayor of the very small but notable Pioneer Village at North Park in Provo. He is inviting area residents to visit and take a walk back in time and experience the years from 1849 to 1873 in Provo at the annual Pioneer Village Craft Fair featuring area artisans.
The annual fair will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the village, 500 North and 500 West, next to the Daughters of Utah Pioneers Museum. However, it's not just the artisans about whom Nelson is excited, it is also the major upgrades and restorations that have taken place over the past few months that he hopes people will notice.
"I am passionate about the village and want to tell the story," Nelson said. "Everything in the village relates to the first colony of pioneers in Utah Valley and how they lived."
Nelson said the 1870 Haws family cabin has been given a major face-lift. There is the village garden and granary and a new modern restroom for guests. Visitors can also visit the 1853 Turner family cabin, store, wood shop, school and loafing shed for the animals.
