Eleven months of the year, it's almost impossible to detect the passage of time in our part of Florida.

We have the late Edwin Menninger to thank for that.
Menninger was a businessman, a writer, an advocate for public parks and a horticulturist. He founded the Stuart News and Southeastern Printing, he helped create Jonathan Dickinson State Park and Memorial Park — but his most memorable legacy is arguably as "The Flowering Tree Man."
From seed, Menninger raised and distributed tens of thousands tropical flowering trees, including many tabebuias (pronounced tab-eh-BOO-yuhs) planted in downtown Stuart.
